I was driving to the Charlotte airport and saw a billboard for the North Carolina Powerball declaring a jackpot of $230 million. I thought “that’s a lot of bananas” Two minutes later I saw a hoarding on the other side of the freeway showing a posible Mega Millions payout of $20 million. I thought; don’t waste my time Mega Millions. I am not going to spend a $1 for the chance to win a measly $20 million.”Two minutes later I thought “Actually, $20 million is quite a lot of money.” I started dreaming of all the things that those winnings could do for me: Get my wife that new ironing board cover she has always wanted or purchase some new books for my 15 year-old son who just loves studying.
I realized that I wasn’t impressed with a $20 million payout because my perspective had been affected by the thought of the Powerball jackpot. It reminded me that everything depends on our perspective. If one of my kids came home from school and said “Dad, the PTA is running a raffle, and for a dollar you have the chance to win $20 million.” I would be all over that like a rat on a Cheeto. Wayne Dyer says, “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”
What would change in your life if you looked at it differently? Have you been anchored by something or someone? What are you not happy about? Could things be worse for you? How can you change the way you look at things?
If you think your territory is bad, you are right. If you think that Friday is a bad day to sell, you are right. If you think every prospect is going to want to think about it, you are right.
Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change….. Now where can I buy a Mega Millions ticket?
I spend my time helping sales people and managers to become the best that they can be. I live in Los Angeles with my wife and three sons.
